Associate Director, Public Square
Democracy Fund
Syracuse, New York, United States
Teresa Gorman is an Associate Director for the Public Square program at Democracy Fund, an independent foundation working to ensure that our political system is able to withstand new challenges and deliver on its promise to the American people. The Public Square Program invests in organizations and leaders who believe in the power of accurate and accessible information as a force for justice and democracy.
Teresa manages the Public Square’s Equitable Journalism portfolio, which seeks to ensure all communities see their needs, concerns, and dreams reflected in the public square. Through this flow of information, people can use their power to build a multi-racial democracy. She serves on the advisory boards of the NC Local News Lab Fund, Colorado Media Project, and on the board of the American Journalism Project. You can read more about this work and equitable local news ecosystems in the Democracy Fund newsletter the Local Fix at bit.ly/thelocalfix.
Teresa joined Democracy Fund in 2016. Previously, Teresa spent her career working at the intersection of local-national collaboration and transformation in journalism. Highlights included time at the Association of Independents in Radio, a network that supports a global community of audio freelancers, at NPR on their first editorial training team dedicated to local member stations, and as one of PBS NewsHour’s first ever social media editors.
