Leroy Chapman Jr. is The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Edtior-in-Chief, the first Black journalist to lead the newsroom in its 155-year history.
Prior to assuming the top newsroom job, Leroy served in a variety of editing roles over 12 years at the AJC.
As managing editor of news, Leroy ran the daily news operation. Prior to that Leroy was a deputy managing editor at the AJC, where he managed the newspaper's reporting teams that cover local, state and federal government, politics and crime and public safety. His first assignment editing job at the AJC was leading local news coverage.
Leroy began his journalism career in his native South Carolina, where he worked for 17 years as an editor and reporter. Among his roles was associate editorial page editor at The Greenville (S.C.) News and politics editor at The (Columbia) State newspaper.
