Maite Fernández Simon is a bilingual journalist with more than a decade of experience working at the intersection of audience strategy, product and news. She’s an Audience Strategy Editor at The Washington Post. She held numerous roles in her close to five years at the Post, among them Senior Operations Editor and Breaking News Reporter in the Foreign desk, the latter as part of an internal program called "Opportunity Year."
Before joining the Post, Maite worked at CQ Roll Call, where she was responsible for audience engagement strategy. Previously, she worked at the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) where she wore several hats, from Spanish Editor of IJNet.org, a website for journalists published in seven languages, to ICFJ’s Communications Director. She started her career as a reporter for El Observador national newspaper in Montevideo, Uruguay.
She has a master’s degree in Digital Journalism from the University of Maryland. She’s a native Spanish speaker and was part of ONA’s 2020 Women's Leadership Accelerator.
