Patrick Butler is senior vice president for content and community at the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), which has worked for almost 40 years to enable a global network of journalists to provide the trustworthy news essential to free and strong societies. His career with ICFJ began in 1999, when he was an ICFJ Knight Fellow in Nicaragua. He has previously been program director and vice president of programs at ICF, and he has spoken or conducted training programs in more than 30 countries. Before joining ICFJ, he worked as a journalist for about 15 years at different U.S. newspapers, from The State in South Carolina to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch to the San Jose Mercury News. He graduated from the University of Missouri with degrees in journalism and Spanish.
